Back in 2013, Microsoft attempted to replace our laptops with tablets. This was done with the launch of the Surface Pro lineup, a device that is great for students, or even those who are continuously working on the go. They provided tablets with attachable keyboard covers, a stylus, and enough power to do the job. Soon many companies such as Lenovo, Huawei, Acer, Samsung, HP, Apple (iPad Pro), and many more followed down this path. Here is a list of some of those devices with the most interesting of all being the Eve V.
Surface pro 4
There are many different specification variants of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. You could find it with an m3, i5, or an i7 Skylake processor. The Surface Pro 4 is available with 4, 8, or 16 GB of ram depending on the processor chosen. The Surface Pro 4 has a screen resolution of 2736 x 1824, and most variants come with the pen included in the box (except for the m3 variant). The 16 GB RAM, 256 GB Storage (SSD), with an i7-6650U variant can be found in Lebanon for $2400, whereas its actual price is $1700. This is not to say that it can’t be found for a reasonable price, it can still be found at some retailers for its original price + Taxes.
Lenovo Miix 510
The Lenovo Miix 510 is a good replacement for the Surface Pro 4. The Tablet comes with an attachable keyboard upon purchase, but without Lenovo’s Active pen, which would cost around $40. The Miix 510 comes with an Intel Core i5-6200U Skylake processor, 8 GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. The tablet has an FHD screen resolution, and it can be found for about $800.
Samsung Galaxy Book
Samsung’s Galaxy Book was announced back in February at MWC, and it comes in two sizes; a 10.6-inch and a 12-inch. Here we will focus on the 12-inch variant only, which has a super AMOLED 2160 x 1440 display. The Galaxy book comes with an i5 processor, 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD, or an 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. The device starts at about $1200. It is not clear yet if the devices will be available in Lebanon, as not all devices are usually made available, and Samsung has stopped selling Laptops here for a while now.
The most interesting of these devices is the Eve V, a crowdfunded project through Indiegogo that managed to raise $1,415,622. The Eve V’s design is based on that of the Surface Pro 4, but it definitely does outshine the Surface Pro 4 in terms of specifications (perhaps until the Surface Pro 5 is launched). The Picture below is taken from Eve V’s Indiegogo page, comparing its specs to that of the Surface Pro 4 and the Asus Transformer 3 Pro. It should be noted that the price mentioned at the end of the comparison table no longer applies, as that was merely the “early bird” price, during the crowdfunding phase. The price of the variant mentioned below would be about $2200.
