Just as expected and explained earlier in a previous post, Huawei did exceed Apple in global sales recently (according to counterpoint). This might not remain the case, as Apple’s new iPhones will probably return Huawei to its third position. Becoming the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer, even for a brief moment, indicates that the company’s goal to become the world’s first smartphone manufacturer (by 2021) isn’t impossible. Nonetheless, Huawei still has a long way to reach Samsung. This year, Huawei shipped 38.5 million smartphones, while Samsung shipped 79.8 million (Source: IDC).
