Delays in Nintendo Switch Production due to Coronavirus

Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Corporation informed its users in Japan of a delay in the production of Nintendo Switch and its accessories, because of the new Coronavirus. The new special version of the device that has the colors of Animal Cross has been pre-booked since last Saturday, to an unknown future release date. The Japanese company has apologized for the delay and said it would continue to monitor the situation.

It is not yet clear whether this delay will affect the device’s shipping to other places, as Nintendo in its statement specifically referred to devices produced in China and sold in Japan. It’s worth mentioning that the company was working on diversifying its supply chain and has begun production in Southeast Asia.

The technology sector has already been suffering from Coronavirus. Many companies such as Google, Apple, and Facebook have implemented travel restrictions on their employees to China and closed all their offices in the country until the crisis ends.

Mobile World Congress that will be taking place at the end of February has already been affected, as Chinese ZTE and LG withdrew, but we are yet to see if Huawei will be taking a similar step.

As of today, the Chinese authorities have recorded a total of 28,000 infected people, and the number of deaths exceeding 500, amid continuous global fear of the Coronavirus spreading outside China.
